Register a vehicle or transfer vehicle ownership
New vehicles are usually registered by the dealer on the Vahan system. Ownership transfer on sale, transfer on the owner's death, change of address, hypothecation removal and NOCs for moving states are done through the Vahan citizen services portal and your RTO.
This service is run by state governments, so the portal and process depend on where you live. Find your state or ask below with your state name.
Steps
- 1
New vehicle: the dealer submits registration on Vahan; pay road tax and fees; the RC is issued and high-security number plates are fitted
- 2
Ownership transfer (sale): seller and buyer submit Form 29 and Form 30 online on Vahan citizen services, pay the fee, and submit documents to the RTO
- 3
Moving states: get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the original RTO, then re-register in the new state (or consider BH-series registration if eligible)
- 4
Track the application online; the RC is available in DigiLocker/mParivahan once issued
