Apply for a new electricity connection
Electricity connections are provided by your state or private distribution company (discom). Under the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, discoms must accept applications online and release connections within prescribed time limits.
This service is run by state governments, so the portal and process depend on where you live. Find your state or ask below with your state name.
Steps
- 1
Apply on your discom's website/app or at the local office for a new connection, load change or name change
- 2
Upload ID and proof of ownership/occupancy, and pay the connection charges
- 3
The discom inspects the site and installs the meter (smart/prepaid meters in many areas)
- 4
If there are delays, use the discom's grievance system or the Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum, then the Electricity Ombudsman
- 5
For rooftop solar with net metering, see PM Surya Ghar
