Enrol for Aadhaar (new Aadhaar, including children)
Aadhaar is a 12-digit identity number issued by UIDAI to residents. Enrolment is free and is done in person at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised enrolment centre (many banks and post offices).
Steps

Find a nearby enrolment centre using the UIDAI website or Bhuvan Aadhaar locator; book an appointment where available

Fill the enrolment form and show original proof of identity, address and date of birth
- 3
Give biometrics (fingerprints, iris, photo); for children under 5, only a photo is taken (Baal Aadhaar), linked to a parent's Aadhaar

Keep the acknowledgement slip with the enrolment ID and track status online

Download the e-Aadhaar from the myAadhaar portal once generated
- 6
Children must update biometrics at age 5 and again at 15 (mandatory biometric update)
